An extremely impressive range of objects from the forerunner of kinetic art will be presented offering an insight into Calder's works of the 30s and 40s, which, up to now, have only been available in museums. From filigree wire sculptures Calder developed mobile and stable works, which were typified by Marcel Duchamp and Jean Arp.
The exhibition underlines, in the truest sense of the word, Calder's significance as a ''Modernist'' at the beginning of the 20th century. For the first time a few of the more than 15 important works will be offered for sale.
Parallel to Calder's sculptures and gouaches there will be an exhibition of photographs from the Swiss Herbert Matter, who accompanied and photographed Calder during his life; and also a seldom-seen short film from the 50s with the music of John Cage.
